Cash Transfers and Social Preferences of Children
Description
We study the effects of a large unconditional cash transfer program on social preferences of children in rural Kenya using a randomized controlled trial. We measure the social preferences of 4,022 children with survey questions and incentivized behavioral games three years after the cash transfer. First, we find no persistent economic effects of the program. Additionally, we find no consistent evidence that children from the treatment group or that children from the spillover group are more or less prosocial than children from the control group. However, we find some evidence of reduced psychological well-being among adults and children in spillover households.

Steps to reproduce
End-to-end replication code and deidentified data for the JDE submission "Cash and Social Preferences of Children". Running [`code/do/0_master.do`](code/do/0_master.do) regenerates every table and figure in [`compiler/jde_tables_figures.tex`](compiler/jde_tables_figures.tex), which compiles to a single PDF containing every table and figure that appears in the paper and supplementary appendix, in paper order, with no prose. Pre-generated outputs (`compiler/tables/*.tex`, `compiler/figures/*.pdf`, `compiler/jde_tables_figures.pdf`) are included in the zip. Running the pipeline regenerates everything from the deidentified raw inputs. README with further details is included in the folder.
