Adaptable Educational Strategy for a Community Intervention: Raising Vaccination Awareness in Yaguate, Dominican Republic.
Description
This dataset contains the structural and pedagogical design of a 45-minute community health intervention titled "Vacúnate" as part of the Niño Sano community project. The Medical School of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña developed the project to be implemented in the rural community of Yaguate, San Cristobal, targeting families and young adults. The material includes a detailed logistics plan for the 45-minute intervention, which is divided into five stages: a diagnostic pre-test, a session on vaccine fundamentals, a session on debunking myths, a session on lifelong immunization schedules, and a post-test to measure impact. The data highlights a dual-plan strategy (Plan A utilizes digital resources, while Plan B is designed for low-resource environments), ensuring the intervention's adaptability to various community settings, such as school classrooms or open-air courts. This dataset aims to provide medical and public health students with a replicable model to address vaccine reluctance and improve health literacy in underserved populations.

Steps to reproduce
To replicate and implement this community health intervention, the following procedural steps were established: 1) Target population identification: The intervention was designed for a rural community, specifically Yaguate in San Cristobal, and involves families, adults, and youth in communal settings, such as schools and common areas. 2) Time-Block Management: A 45-minute structured timeline was created and divided into the following: Introduction (10 minutes), Module I (10 minutes), Module II (10 minutes), Module III (10 minutes), and Closing and Survey (5 minutes). 3) Baseline Assessment (Pre-Test): A 10-question true/false survey was developed to measure participants' prior knowledge and prejudices regarding vaccines. 4) Educational Content Design: Three specialized modules were drafted: - Module I: Definitions and Types of Vaccines: Explains vaccines as tools for protection and their working mechanisms. - Module II confronts myths and misconceptions through an interactive game format to reduce judgment and promote understanding. - Module III identifies missed opportunities and explains how to regain them, as well as the importance of lifelong immunization schedules. 5) Implementation of Emergency Protocols (Plan A & B): To ensure feasibility in low-resource areas, each stage includes an alternative execution method. - Plan A uses digital tools, such as projectors and digital surveys. - Plan B replaces technology with physical materials, such as posters and envelopes with printed myths, as well as pre- and post-tests and written records of hand-raising for data collection. 6) Impact Validation (Post-Test): The same 10-question survey administered at the beginning is given again at the end to record changes in participants' stances and the educational impact, including prejudice.
