Dataset on knowledge, attitudes, and treatment experiences regarding GLP‑1‑based injectable therapies among adults interested in weight management
Description
This dataset contains de‑identified responses from an online, descriptive, cross‑sectional survey of adults interested in weight management who reside in the Northern Border Region of Saudi Arabia. The Excel file “Raw_data_GLPI_weight_mgmt.xlsx” includes 513 rows, each representing a unique participant, and columns covering sociodemographic characteristics (age group, sex, marital status, education, employment, income, health insurance, chronic illnesses, and city of residence), anthropometric categories (self‑reported weight and height), and use of health services. The questionnaire captured knowledge and awareness regarding the use of antidiabetic medications, including GLP‑1 receptor agonists and related injectable therapies, for weight loss (e.g., awareness of the possibility of using diabetes medications for weight reduction, recognition of specific brand names, and knowledge of regulatory approval for weight‑loss indications). It also assessed attitudes toward the safety, effectiveness, supervision, and long‑term use of these medications using multiple Likert‑scale items, as well as sources of information, including healthcare providers, nutritionists, family/friends, and social media. Practice‑related variables describe patterns of use of antidiabetic medications for weight loss in the previous 12 months (ever use, specific products used, place of obtaining medications, and difficulties obtaining them), weight‑loss methods other than diabetes medications, and treatment‑related experiences, including reported side effects, checking medication sources, medical consultation before use, weight change while using the medication, and weight regain after discontinuation. The dataset also contains free‑text fields where participants could provide comments, suggestions, or brief descriptions of their personal weight‑loss experiences. All data were collected via an anonymous, self‑administered online form, with electronic informed consent obtained prior to participation. The dataset is suitable for secondary analyses of patient knowledge, attitudes, and real‑world use patterns of GLP‑1–based injectable therapies and related antidiabetic medications in obesity and weight‑management research.
