Ukraine's Balance of Payments: Current & Capital Account, Full Detail (Trade in Goods and Services, Primary and Secondary Income, Grants, Remittances and Debt Forgiveness), 2015Q1-2026Q1
Description
This dataset provides the fully detailed quarterly breakdown of Ukraine's Current Account and Capital Account, per the IMF's Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6), covering 2015Q1 through 2026Q1 (45 quarters). It combines what were originally conceived as two separate ideas -- (1) a trade-in-goods-and-services dataset and (2) a secondary income / international assistance dataset -- into one dataset, because both draw on immediately adjacent rows of the same underlying NBU source table and share the same hierarchical structure; splitting them would have meant duplicating most of the surrounding context. Coverage includes, among ~96 line items: the full commodity/service breakdown of goods and services trade (transport by mode -- sea, air, rail, road, pipeline, each split passenger/freight; travel; construction; insurance and pension services; financial services; telecommunications, computer and information services; charges for intellectual property; other business services; personal, cultural and recreational services; government services); primary income (compensation of employees, investment income by direct/portfolio/other investment); secondary income (official current transfers under international cooperation, private transfers including workers' remittances); and the Capital Account (debt forgiveness and other capital transfers, both for general government and for private-sector counterparties). The dataset supports econometric modelling of Ukraine's trade structure and services exports (including the IT sector), and research on the role of official grants, remittances and debt forgiveness in financing Ukraine's current account deficit during the war. METHODOLOGY & SOURCES Figures are taken directly from the National Bank of Ukraine's official Balance of Payments publication (standard presentation, detailed table) and are not estimated or interpolated. The source table lists most line items as a NET value, immediately followed (where published) by separate "Кредит" (Credit/receipts) and "Дебет" (Debit/payments) rows; these have been reshaped by the author into net_uah_mln, credit_uah_mln and debit_uah_mln columns for each item, and the original row-nesting has been preserved in indent_level and item_path.
