Description

This dataset supports the study “Foresight on Urban Agriculture and CEA: Prioritizing Technological, Market, and Policy Drivers for Sustainability.” It contains anonymized responses from a global Delphi survey of 99 experts, who independently assessed 18 technological, market, and policy drivers according to their expected impact on urban agriculture’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. The Excel workbook includes the raw survey responses, respondent characteristics, open-ended comments, driver descriptions, summary tables, and calculations used in the analysis. These calculations cover consensus indicators, agreement rates, means and standard errors, comparisons by region and employment sector, statistical tests, and driver rankings and weights obtained using the Stepwise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA).

Steps to reproduce

Open the Excel workbook in Microsoft Excel or compatible software and enable formula recalculation. The “Raw data” worksheet contains the anonymized survey responses. Each row represents one of the 99 experts. The first columns contain respondent characteristics, followed by ratings and optional comments for the 18 drivers. Experts rated each driver on a five-point scale: 0 = no impact, 1 = very low impact, 2 = low impact, 3 = high impact, and 4 = very high impact. Blank cells represent unanswered items and should be excluded from calculations for that driver. For each driver, calculate the number of valid responses (N), mean impact, standard error, interquartile range (IQR), and agreement rate. The agreement rate is the percentage of valid respondents assigning a score of 3 or 4. Consensus is identified when IQR < 1.25 and/or agreement is at least 70%. The relevant calculations are reproduced in the “Calculation_IQR” and “Calculat_% of agree_all” worksheets, with final results presented in “Table 4. Overall consensus.” Repeat the calculations for two subgroup comparisons: Global North versus Global South and public versus private employment sectors. Missing responses are excluded separately for each driver. Compare subgroup means using independent-samples t-tests. The calculations and results are provided in the demographic calculation worksheets and in Tables 5 and 6. To reproduce the SWARA prioritization, rank the drivers by their mean impact and follow the sequential weighting calculations provided in the worksheets beginning with “Calculation_SWARA.” Calculate weights separately for technological, market, and regulation/policy drivers, as well as across all drivers and driver groups. Normalize the resulting weights so that they sum to one. Final rankings and weights are reported in “Table 3. Ranking SWARA.” The “Compl_Other drivers of change” worksheet contains the thematic classification of responses to the open-ended question. The remaining table worksheets reproduce the tables reported in the associated manuscript.
