Description
We thank the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment of New Zealand (MBIE) for funding this work through the Oranga Taiao, Oranga Tangata research programme led by Massey University (contract MAUX1502). We also acknowledge the support of New Zealand regional authorities that provided data and permission to use it: Northland Regional Council, Auckland Regional Council, Waikato Regional Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Hawkes Bay Regional Council, Horizons Regional Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council, Marlborough District Council, Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council, West Coast Regional Council, Environment Canterbury, Christchurch City Council, Otago Regional Council and Environment Southland. Additional stream data were obtained from the following sources: Collier and Smith (2005), Harding and Jellyman (2015), Macher et al. (2016), Magbanua et al. (2010), Quinn and Hickey (1990), Wagenhoff (2011) and Wagenhoff et al. (2017). Estuary data was also obtained from two research programmes: Manaaki Taha Moana and the Estuarine Environmental Assessment and Monitoring: A National Protocol, funded by the MBIE and the Ministry of the Environment respectively. Drew Lohrer and Judi Hewitt from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research calculated Traits Based Index scores.
