Description

This dataset supports the journal article “Prioritizing Creative Economy Subsectors Using Macroeconomic Indicators.” It contains the data processing and calculation materials used to develop and apply the Scale-Opportunity Matrix, a two-dimensional macroeconomic classification framework for prioritizing Indonesia’s creative economy subsectors. The dataset covers sixteen officially designated creative economy subsectors in Indonesia over the 2019–2024 period. The primary variables are gross value added (GVA) and employment by subsector. These variables are used to calculate labor productivity, GVA compound annual growth rate (GVA CAGR), and productivity compound annual growth rate. The Excel calculation workbook documents the full analytical procedure, including raw indicator organization, productivity calculation, CAGR calculation, z-score normalization, Scale Index construction, Opportunity Index construction, median-threshold quadrant classification, and robustness checks across alternative methodological specifications. The dataset includes the original calculation workbook and supporting source files for the primary GVA and employment data. The underlying data are based on official statistical data from Badan Pusat Statistik and data processed by Pusat Data dan Informasi, Kementerian Ekonomi Kreatif. The dataset is provided to support transparency, reproducibility, and independent verification of the article’s empirical results, including the identification of the final innovation-oriented development priority set: Film, Animation, and Video; Television and Radio; Applications and Game Development; Advertising; and Publishing. This dataset is intended for researchers, policymakers, and analysts working on creative economy measurement, macroeconomic indicator-based prioritization, structural transformation, innovation-oriented development, and evidence-based policy classification frameworks.

Steps to reproduce

To reproduce the results, download the Excel workbook and review the worksheet sequence from the raw data sheets through the final classification and robustness sheets. The primary inputs are gross value added and employment data for sixteen Indonesian creative economy subsectors over 2019–2024. First, verify the raw GVA and employment values using the supporting source files. Second, calculate labor productivity as GVA divided by employment for each subsector and year. Third, calculate GVA CAGR and Productivity CAGR over the 2019–2024 period. Fourth, normalize the four indicators using z-score normalization across the sixteen subsectors. Fifth, construct the Scale Index by averaging normalized GVA and normalized employment, and construct the Opportunity Index by averaging normalized GVA CAGR and normalized Productivity CAGR. Sixth, classify each subsector using the median Scale and Opportunity thresholds. Finally, review the robustness sheets, which test alternative specifications including weight variation, min-max normalization, indicator removal, and mean-threshold classification. The final priority set is derived from the baseline Scale-Opportunity Matrix classification and the robustness stability results.
