Raw experimental dataset for a comparative evaluation of three commercial wood moisture sensor systems on Norway spruce timber under controlled climate chamber conditions
Description
This dataset contains raw measurement data from a comparative experimental evaluation of three commercial resistance-based wood moisture sensor systems (identified as S, T and W) installed in a Norway spruce (Picea abies) structural timber specimen and exposed to five controlled climate conditions (10–30 °C, 40–80% RH) in a climate chamber over a 22-day test period. The data show that all three systems captured the expected distinction between fast near-surface and slower core moisture response, and that composite sensor moisture readings mostly stayed within a ±3 percentage-point practical accuracy threshold against oven-dry references, with the largest deviations under the coldest test conditions. Temperature agreement with the chamber reference was consistent across systems; relative humidity and moisture content agreement varied by system and by climate condition. The systems also differed substantially in data retrieval method, export format, and metadata completeness – from manual spreadsheet exports to automated API/HTTP-based JSON streams with varying levels of embedded contextual metadata. This repository contains the raw data behind those results: per-system sensor exports (moisture content, temperature, relative humidity), gravimetric oven-dry reference weighings, and climate-chamber reference logs, provided as retrieved from each source without post-processing or cross-system harmonisation. File- and column-level definitions, units, and which channels were used in the published analysis are documented in the accompanying README.
