Description

This dataset supports the study "Coupling Measured Hydrology with Household Valuation to Construct a Natural Capital Architecture: An Ancient Lowland Forest Fragment in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia." It couples direct biophysical measurement of a hydrological ecosystem service with contingent valuation of that service by the households who consume it. The study site is the Ranjuri ancient forest, a 9 ha lowland forest fragment in Beka Village, Marawola District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, situated within a village territory of 699 ha. The fragment is classified as Other Use Area (Areal Penggunaan Lain, APL) rather than as designated forest estate, and its springs are the sole source of piped domestic water for 78 households in Sub-village 3 and part of Sub-village 4. Fieldwork was conducted between June and August 2026. The dataset comprises three components. (1) A daily spring-discharge record of 89 consecutive rainfall-free days (1 June – 28 August 2026), gauged at 08.00 WITA at a thin-plate V-notch weir installed at the collection basin receiving the combined flow of spring outlets S4 and S6, which supplies the gravity-fed distribution network. Head over the notch vertex was measured to 0.1 cm as the mean of three successive readings; the file reports both raw head and discharge computed via the standard V-notch rating equation. (2) De-identified responses from a contingent valuation survey of 50 households, 64.1% of the 78 connected users, recording the participation decision, stated monthly contribution in Indonesian rupiah, monthly household income, educational attainment, and straight-line distance of the dwelling from the forest boundary. (3) Laboratory water-quality results for all six mapped spring outlets (S1–S6), with values below the method detection limit flagged as censored rather than recorded as zero. Monetary amounts are given in the currency of elicitation (IDR); the associated article converts them at USD 1 = IDR 17,710, the rate prevailing on 1 September 2026. Analyses in the article were performed in Microsoft Excel 365. Precise dwelling coordinates are withheld from the deposited files because they would permit re-identification of individual households within a user population of 78. These coordinates are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request, subject to a data-sharing agreement. Water-quality sampling points cannot be linked to individual respondents, as the household survey did not record which outlet supplied each dwelling.
