Description

This dataset supports the systematic review "Geographic information systems for seawater intrusion estimation in coastal aquifers: A systematic review of statistical and optimization methods" by Jessica Lee, Universiti Sains Malaysia. The review catalogue was developed from ScienceDirect, Scopus and Web of Science using the query "GIS" AND "Seawater intrusions", refined to open-access, peer-reviewed journal articles. The three database exports contained 500 records. Removal of 9 non-journal records and 65 duplicate copies produced 426 unique journal records. Adding 43 non-duplicate journal records from the existing bibliography produced a screening catalogue of 469 records. Title-and-abstract screening retained 211 records for evidence mapping. The associated full-text workflow assessed and included 42 reports. The dataset comprises two Excel workbooks. Supplementary_Table_S1_JessicaLee_Journal_Review.xlsx contains the search catalogue, retained bibliographic records, screening log, publication profile, codebook, representative study comparisons and PRISMA reporting information. SLR_DataBase_Report_JessicaLee_Journal_Review.xlsx documents database exports, duplicate groups, bibliography overlap and reconciled selection counts. Report identifiers link records across worksheets. The data support reproduction of the review's selection counts and descriptive publication profile, and inspection of the evidence used to compare GIS, vulnerability-index, statistical, optimization and machine-learning approaches to seawater intrusion assessment.

Steps to reproduce

1. Download both Excel workbooks and open them in Microsoft Excel. Read the Codebook worksheet for definitions and the meaning of each report identifier. 2. Consult Search_Catalogue for the query "GIS" AND "Seawater intrusions", the three databases and the open-access, peer-reviewed journal-article filters. Use the deposited export records as the starting data for reproducing this review. 3. In the database report, examine Database_Record_Audit and DB_Cross_Duplicates. Starting from 500 exported records, remove the 9 non-journal records and 65 excess duplicate copies identified in the audit. The resulting database set contains 426 unique journal records. 4. Use Proposal_Reference_Types and the recorded bibliography overlap to identify 54 journal references in the existing bibliography. Remove the 11 already represented in the database set and add the remaining 43 records. The combined screening catalogue contains 469 records. 5. Follow the recorded decisions in Screening_Log. The 258 title-and-abstract exclusions leave 211 records, listed in S1_Catalogue. Use the full-text status and evidence-role fields to identify the 42 included full-text reports: 31 empirical GIS-SWI reports, 5 numerical or predictive process reports and 6 methodological or contextual reports. 6. In the supplementary workbook, group the 211 S1_Catalogue records by publication year and compare the totals with Catalogue_Profile. Consult Study_Comparisons for the representative studies, their cited sources and reported findings; retain each study's original outcome and validation context. 7. Recalculate the workbooks and inspect PRISMA_Flow. Confirm the selection counts and verify that the five reconciliation differences in cells B24:B28 equal zero. Preserve report identifiers when sorting or filtering so that screening decisions remain linked to the correct records.
