Recent papers have documented a reduction in research productivit over time. We estimate the relationship between research productivity and economic growth using a panel of OECD economies between 1981 and 2019. For countries in the G7, we find a strong correlation between these twoariables. The effect is both statistically significant and quantitatively relevant.
