Level of parental acceptance of the use of silver diamine fluoride in active caries lesions in primary dentition at the Dr. René Puig Bentz dental clinic
Description
This research is a descriptive cross-sectional study whose objective was to determine the level of parental acceptance of the use of silver diamine fluoride for active caries lesions in primary teeth at the Dr. René Puig Bentz Dental Clinic. The study arose from the need to evaluate parental perceptions regarding a minimally invasive treatment that has proven effective in halting caries but causes dark discoloration on treated surfaces, which could influence decision-making. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to parents or guardians of pediatric patients treated at the clinic. The instrument included closed-ended questions aimed at identifying preferences between conventional restorative treatment with a turbine and anesthesia and the use of silver diamine fluoride, as well as willingness to accept the characteristic staining of the material and the preferred dental sector for its application. The results allow for an analysis of the factors influencing the acceptance or rejection of the treatment, especially those related to aesthetic concerns and the invasive nature of the conventional procedure. The information obtained provides relevant evidence regarding parents’ attitudes toward conservative therapeutic strategies in pediatric dentistry and contributes to the strengthening of evidence-based clinical decision-making
