This review intends to identify the key drivers of poverty in the Philippines. It will explore historical causes, consequences as well as current and potential initiatives aimed at reducing the high rate of poverty in the future. The major problems discovered in this research is the colonialism and political corruption continue to affect the wealth of Filipino people to a greater degree and remain obstruction to the Philippines moving toward poverty rate closer to the international median as defined by the World Bank
