This replication package contains the data and R code for the paper Before the Takeoff: External Liberalization and the Sequencing of Late-Developer Growth. The study examines whether major episodes of external liberalization place late-developing economies on a path toward sustained economic growth. The analysis covers 15 externally dated policy events in eight economies: Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, China, Chile, Vietnam, Poland, and Estonia. These events include trade and foreign-exchange reforms, export-processing zones, WTO or GATT accession, financial and capital-account liberalization, and broader market-oriented transitions.
