Supplementary data on the performance of temperature-based global solar radiation models at 105 meteorological stations in Spain
Description
The accuracy and generality of 14 existing global solar radiation models based on temperature have been evaluated. The coefficients of locally calibrated models at 105 stations in three large areas in Spain are used as the basis of the procedure. The comparisons are based on dimensionless statistical indicators. From the local coefficients of eight stations selected in each area, general equations are derived for the coefficients of each model as a function of elevation and distance to the sea. The predictions of the modified models, i.e. using coefficients derived from the general equations, are compared both for the eight base stations and for the stations used for validation purposes. Several models perform well in some of the areas, but a simple homogeneous model is the only one whose indicators are good in all areas and also hardly vary when using general coefficients derived from the data measured at all available stations.
