Novel SINE3 and variants to canonical SINE1 in the human genome

We conducted a structural search for SINEs in the NCBI reference genome of Homo sapiens (https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/all/GCF/000/001/405/GCF_000001405.40_GRCh38.p14/GCF_000001405.40_GRCh38.p14_genomic.fna.gz). We found and subsequently characterized four SINE3 retroposon loci (SINE3HS1, SINE3HS2, SINE3HS3, SINE3HS4), two widespread non-canonical sequences of SINE1 Alu (SINE1AluHS1, SINE1AluHS2) and DNA stretches formed by the repetition of Alu (Repeat_SINE1AluHS2X2, Repeat_SINE1AluHS2X3, Repeat_SINE1AluHS2X4) or head-to-tail merging of Alu to 5S rRNA derived sequences (Repeat_5S/SINE1AluHS2, Repeat_SINE3/SINE1AluHS2). Here, we provide the associated files and encourage the scientific community to use them.
