3D Dataset of the Cambrian arthropod fossil Pisinnocaris subconigera from Chengjiang biota

Description

Pisinnocaris subconigera was first described as a rare, small euarthropod from the early Cambrian Chengjiang biota, southwestern China. The taxonomic validity of this species was later challenged due to the lack of essential morphological details. Here, we examined the holotype and additional specimens of P. subconigera with advanced techniques such as micro-CT scanning and computer-based 3D rendering, and revealed the previously unknown ventral organization of the animal.These are the original morphological data resulted from X-ray micro-computed tomographical analysis of three delicately preserved arthropod fossils (specimen number: NIGPAS 115417a, YKLP17301 and CJHMD00066a, respectively) from the early Cambrian Chengjiang biota. This dataset contains three files: 3D scans and Figure of NIGPAS 115417a, YKLP17301 and CJHMD00066a, respectively. Each file includes Tiff Stack file and 3D screenshot figure of 3D model.

Steps to reproduce

The three specimens were scanned with a Zeiss Xradia 520 Versa micro-CT scanner at the Yunnan Key Laboratory for Palaeobiology, Yunnan University, China, resulting in a series of tiff images, which can be processed with 3D visualization softwares to creat 3D models.
