EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMME ON LOWER LIMB SPASTICITY BY KINESIO TAPING AND MYOFASCIAL RELEASE AMONG SPASTIC DIPLEGIC CEREBRAL PALSY: A PILOT RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
Description
Introduction: Hamstring spasticity in spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy children is always challenging in rehabilitation, as it leads to contractures and flexion deformities of the knee over a prolonged period of time.To prevent these complications, there is a need for a rehabilitation programme that helps to deal with this problem. Aim: The study aimed to see the combined effect of Kinesio taping and the Myofascial release technique in hamstrings muscle spasticity of Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. Material & Methods: It was Two Group Pre-Post test Randomised controlled trial on 20 ,Spastic diplegic cerebral palsy children of age 04 to 12 years with spasticity 1,1+and 2 as per Modified Ashworth Scale. In the Intervention group: MFR, Kinesio taping with Conventional therapy and in the Control group:Conventional therapy were given. The outcome were assessed MAS and ROM of Knee joint after 2 weeks of intervention in both groups. Result: Within group analysis, showed significant reduction in spasticity and improvement in range of motion, the values for MAS and ROM score were statistically significant for both the groups, intervention and control group (p<0.05). No significant improvement was observed between group analysis (p>0.05). Conclusion: The findings showed that effect of Myofascial release and Kinesio taping applied with conventional rehabilitation, act as an adjuvant to reduce spasticity and improve muscle function and prevent complications.
