Parental Migration and Its Effects on the Academic and Emotional Development of Filipino Students
Description
This study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design to examine the effects of parental migration on the academic and emotional development of Filipino students. The descriptive method was used to identify and describe the academic and emotional experiences of students with migrant parents, while the correlational approach determined the relationship between parental migration and the students’ academic performance and emotional well-being. This design enabled the researcher to gather numerical data systematically and analyze patterns, relationships, and significant effects among the variables included in the study.

The data in this study were gathered through a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design involving 100 purposively selected senior high school students who have at least one parent working abroad. A validated researcher-made questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale was administered to measure students’ academic and emotional development. Prior to data collection, permission was obtained from school administrators, and respondents were informed about the purpose of the study and assured of confidentiality and voluntary participation. The questionnaires were distributed and retrieved personally by the researcher, then checked for completeness before encoding. All responses were encoded in a spreadsheet and analyzed using statistical tools such as frequency and percentage for demographic profiling, weighted mean for assessing levels of academic and emotional development, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation to determine relationships among variables, ensuring a systematic and reproducible data analysis process.
