Description

This paper expands on the data set Pine Sap On A Tree - The Story Of A Photograph to include the technique of turning an abstract photograph upside down or on its side in order to gain additional insights into what associations and idea-feelings it might evoke in the viewer. The data shows that different insights into the photograph do occur and that both the photographer need to be aware of this procedure and use it to advantage. It was gathered from lecture material at R.I.T. from Ralph Hattersley in the 1950's and works very effectively with abstract photographs.

Steps to reproduce

The data was arrived at from lecture material by Ralph Hattersley at R.I.T. in the 1950's and previous use in order to better understand abstract photographs. It can be reproduced by taking an interesting abstract photograph and try looking at it from different perspectives such as the normal viewing format, turning it on its side and upside down.
