Our study explores the contributions of organic (soil organic matter, SOM) and inorganic (CaCO3, exchangeable calcium, iron/aluminum (hydro)oxides, and clay) binding agents to soil aggregation and structure across an elevational gradient (481-3035 m) in arid environments. We examined changes in specific surface area (SSA) and porosity following the removal of CaCO3 from bulk soil and aggregate fractions, aiming to clarify its role in soil aggregation.
