In this observational study, data were obtained from 560 septic patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and 3,709 healthy controls from Physical Examination Center. Blood samples were analyzed for immune cell parameters, with focus on neutrophil percentages and the combined percentages of lymphocytes and monocytes. These parameters were selected based on their significant differentiation between septic patients and healthy controls and their relationship with Procalcitonin (PCT), a specific marker of infection severity.
