Comparison of Auditory Reaction Time and Sound Localization Performance Across Two Earphone Conditions and a No-Earphone Condition
Description
This dataset accompanies a study examining auditory reaction time and sound localization performance under three experimental conditions: no-earphone, canal-type earphone, and bone-conduction earphone conditions. The study used a within-subject repeated-measures design in 35 healthy young adults. Concurrent music was presented in the two earphone conditions, whereas no music was presented in the no-earphone condition. The sound localization task consisted of sounds presented from eight loudspeakers positioned at 45° intervals around the participant. Each participant completed five trials for each direction, for a total of 40 trials per condition. A reversal error was defined as a response in the direction 180° opposite to the actual sound-source direction. The present dataset contains participant-level counts of reversal errors and valid localization responses for each of the three experimental conditions. These data correspond to the participant-level data reported in the supplementary material of the associated manuscript and are provided to improve transparency regarding the distribution of reversal errors across participants. The present dataset can be used to inspect the participant-level distribution of reversal errors and to support evaluation of the robustness of the reported findings.
