World Development

The dataset contains the two Stata V17 files on which the article in World Development (2014) with the same title as the dataset is based. It also includes the Stata computer codes (do files) and a one-page Word document on how to run the datasets

These replication data accompany a submission to World Development and include a Stata do-file and a Stata dataset.

Two longitudinal data sets are constructed for this paper. The first panel is formed from ENLACE test scores of students who completed primary school (grade 6) in 2007, lower secondary school (grade 9) in 2010, and upper secondary school (grade 12) in 2013. The second panel merges a special module of the Mexican labor survey (ENOE, from the Spanish) applied to individuals ages 18, 19, and 20 years during the third quarter of 2010, with students that sat the ENLACE test in grade 12 in May 2008, 2009, and 2010.

The Raw Data set details out the political composition of the 46 village councils, NREGS expenditure and registration patterns between 2013-2018.

This dataset is from the 2010 and 2012 waves of the Vietnam Access to Resources Household Survey (VARHS). The surveys were carried out in rural areas of 12 provinces, producing a balanced panel of 2,045 households spread over 161 districts and 456 communes. The VARHS contains information on all the types of insurance that a household held at the time of interview, including health insurance. The 2010 and 2012 waves of the VARHS contain questions that allow us to measure an individual’s risk aversion which allows researchers to address an important source of endogeneity between health insurance and vulnerability.

The study uses public-use data from the India Human Development Survey, which are available to download for free from the following link https://ihds.umd.edu/data-download. The replication data contains the code for undertaking the analysis for the associated paper.

Part of the data were computed based on the Vietnamese population census that is available via IPUMS. For a complete list of data sources, please see the corresponding section of the paper.
